Imagine Moving On is dedicated to discussing addiction (understanding and overcoming) and counseling. Imagine Moving On is a concept of visualization and is suggested as the first step in overcoming an addiction you may be dealing with.
Imagine Moving On is directed towards people experiencing addiction firsthand or secondhand. If you have questions about addiction hopefully you’ll find some answers here. I have had parents call me seeking understanding or suggestions on how to support their children who I work with. Speaking of which, allow me to introduce myself.
I am a licensed alcohol and drug counselor and have been working in addiction treatment since July 2014. My education includes Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Psychology, my Master’s had an emphasis in Industrial/Organizational psych. As such, I needed to complete 180 post-degree credits in substance use disorder and counseling topics while I worked as an apprentice addiction professional. I met the requirements for licensure in August 2016. I worked in a medication assisted treatment facility, for opiate dependence, from July 2014 until January 2017 when I left to start a private practice for substance use counseling.
Outside of my profession I enjoy writing and have previously blogged and self-published a few books, just for fun and fulfillment of personal goals. The last few years have been busy with work and family and I have fallen out of practice with writing, so one of my goals with Imagine Moving On is to return to writing, for my own sense of well-being. I want to make the topic relevant to my work because I find psychology, neuroscience, behavior change and the path to well-being entirely intriguing. I love reading about these topics and spend a lot of time on them so if I can synthesize or summarize the information for others to have easier access or understanding then I want to do that.
I’m not trying to create a masterpiece website, so don’t expect me to follow the current standard of blogging with flashy titles and images every so many words and all of that. Also, for as much as I like writing and reading, I don’t really care for grammar and that stuff, so if you have trouble taking someone seriously when they don’t understand sentence structure, maybe this isn’t the blog for you. If you care more about the message than the delivery I think you’ll feel at home.
Please send questions and comments my way. Let’s discuss and find solutions.
